Our Reunion was definitely a blast from the past!
All seventy-three attending proved that being Fifty or near Fifty, didn't mean they weren't
still very young at heart, and could still have FUN! Everyone looked great and they were
definitely ready to party! The weekend was a huge success, everyone had a wonderful time, sharing old memories, and creating new ones.
The Dinners both nights were delicious. The weather was great, the Beach inviting. It was just a perfect weekend!
Everyone was sorry to see the weekend come to an end. It was so good seeing everyone again and remembering our special times together from High School.
I would like to give a "Big Thanks" to the following people:
Conrad Owings, you were great! Thanks for filling in for Paul Davis, our Class President.
You had no trouble keeping us entertained all weekend! You helped to make our reunion such a success and warmed all of our hearts! The Over The Hill Boxer Shorts, you were awarded looked great on you! And yes, we have pictures!
Nancy Davidson-Holdsworth, thanks so much. I couldn't have done it without your help! And a special thanks to your husband "Rusty", for pitching in and helping us decorate. Mark Majilton, thanks for the wonderful pictures! You haven't lost your touch. Bari Darlene Stone, Sharon Faircloth-Cunningham, and Marilea Clements-Edwards... a big thanks
to each of you for all your help! To my daughter, "Janet", thanks so much for your help in decorating also! And a special thanks to everyone for attending and making our Reunion a huge success and so much fun!
I especially want to thank each and every one of you all for the wonderful gifts and cards you gave me. You are all very
special...Thanks! I also want to thank everyone, who has and will be sending reunion pictures, so that I can add them to the web site and reunion booklet.
Friday Night at the American Legion:
As everyone started to arrive. Nancy Davidson-Holdsworth and myself were there to help everyone Sign In and see if we could remember who you were. We did pretty good, there were only a couple of you we had to ask! The Scooter and Wheelchair Races proved we were still very much competitive. Way to go
Danny Aulton and Mark Majilton for zipping right along on those scooters...we do have pictures! Did
you happen to catch the wipe-out during the scooter race of Danny Aulton and myself? Did anyone get any pictures? I'm fine, thanks to Danny. As I went down, I barely touched the floor when Danny grabbed me around the middle and held me up, all the while still on his scooter. We went on to finish the race... Danny won!
The wheelchair race turned into a Destruction Derby...but David Simmons, Bari Stone, Danny Aulton, and Mark Majilton proved they'll have no trouble getting around 30 years from now.
We enjoyed a Western Barbecue Dinner Friday Night, the food was great! After our event for Friday Night was over
we all met at the Holiday Inn on the Beach at Longboat Key where most of us were staying. At curfew time, our group was moved from the Indoor Pool area to the Lounge, by our Hotel Security Officer "James", whom Kathy Beans-Penson got to know real well!
While in the lounge Conrad continued to entertain us... isn't he great!!! Sometime after 1AM while I was walking back to my room... I heard some splashing as I was walking by the pool area. Someone was getting out of the Hot Tub. Wonder who it was? Hey Kathy and Rick, do you know? And where was James?
Saturday on the Beach at the Holiday Inn:
The Volleyball game was great! I didn't know you could all still move like that. There is a video of it that Bari Stone's better half "Kemp Howland" took. He'll be sending a link that will be added to our class web site. Thanks, Kemp!
After the game, some of us spent the rest of the day at the beach, at the beach lounge, at one of the pools, and someone even ended up at Dillards (Thanks! Nancy)
Saturday Night at the American Legion:
We were back for another night of fun. Group Photos were taken, although some of you were late and missed them. Conrad again did a Fantastic job the entire night! We enjoyed a delicious Buffet Dinner with Carved Prime Rib, Chicken and Ham. The Door Prize Drawings were held and then
on to our Awards Presentation. Each of us selected whom we thought had changed the most, the least, and aged the best. All the winners are listed on our Awards Page. Names were then drawn for special 50th Birthday Gifts and we then enjoyed our Birthday Cake. The rest of the night was spent socializing and dancing.
Later that night... some of us headed back to the Hotel Lounge for more fun and socializing. The next morning, some of us had breakfast together and then said our good-byes and went our own ways. Our wonderful weekend had come to an end!
We have already begun talking about our next Reunion. We will more than likely be having a 35th Reunion in three years, so begin making your plans now to attend.
In the meantime, we may even be having a Cruise Reunion for those that would like to attend. Watch for details of both to be posted here on our Class Web Site.
It was suggested that since everyone loved the Bradenton and Longboat Key area here during this reunion, that the next reunion also be held here. It is
centrally located in Florida and on the Gulf Coast with numerous beach activities available. Bradenton is just south of Tampa Bay. If you have any suggestions, let me know.
